Purpose of The Role

We are seeking a creative and talented Show Writer to join our team for the Esports Awards on a contract basis. As a Show Writer, you will play a crucial role in crafting captivating and engaging content for our annual awards ceremony, which celebrates and honours excellence within the esports industry. Your exceptional storytelling abilities, esports knowledge, and understanding of the gaming culture will be instrumental in producing a memorable and entertaining show for our global audience.

Overall Responsibilities

• Content Development: Collaborate with the creative team to develop and refine the script for the Esports Awards ceremony. Create compelling narratives, intros, outros, and entertaining banter for the hosts and presenters.
• Esports Industry Knowledge: Stay up to date with the latest developments, trends, and achievements in the esports industry. Use this knowledge to infuse the script with relevant and insightful references that resonate with both hardcore esports fans and newcomers.
• Interview Preparation: Prepare engaging questions and talking points for hosts and presenters to ensure they bring out the best in the award recipients during on-stage interviews.
• Segments and Special Features: Conceptualize and write scripts for special segments, video packages, and other creative elements that will enhance the overall show experience.
• Collaborative Ideation: Work closely with the production team, hosts, presenters, and other stakeholders to brainstorm ideas, incorporate feedback, and refine the script collaboratively.
• Time Management: Ensure all scripts are completed and delivered on schedule, adhering to strict deadlines throughout the pre-production and rehearsal phases.
• Rehearsals: Attend rehearsals to fine-tune the script, make necessary adjustments, and ensure smooth execution during the live show.
• Brand Alignment: Maintain consistency with the Esports Awards’ brand voice and identity throughout all written materials.

Personal specification

• Proven Writing Experience: Demonstrated experience as a professional scriptwriter, content writer, or similar role, with a strong portfolio showcasing your storytelling abilities and versatility.
• Esports Enthusiast: Deep passion for esports, with a solid understanding of the competitive gaming landscape, popular games, players, teams, and noteworthy events within the industry.
• Creative Vision: Ability to think creatively and develop original concepts that will resonate with a diverse global audience of esports enthusiasts.
• Adaptability: Capable of adapting writing styles and tones to suit various segments and to accommodate the preferences of different hosts and presenters.
• Collaboration Skills: Excellent teamwork and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse teams and incorporate feedback into your work.
• Deadline-Oriented: Strong time management skills with the ability to work efficiently under tight deadlines.
• Writing Flexibility: Proficiency in crafting both short, punchy lines and longer, more elaborate narratives as required by the show’s content.
• Problem-Solving: Quick and creative problem-solving skills to address any last-minute changes or challenges that may arise during the production process.

Desirable

• Prior Experience in Esports: Previous experience working in the esports industry or writing esports-related content would be advantageous.
• Entertainment Industry Exposure: Familiarity with the entertainment industry, live shows, or other award ceremonies is a plus.
• Multimedia Skills: Basic knowledge of video production, audio scripting, or visual storytelling can be beneficial for collaboration with the production team.
